1 Dead, 1 Injured in Athens Crosswalk Collision After Vehicle Fails to Yield, Police State

ATHENS, Ga. (DDN) – A woman was arrested on Friday after allegedly running into a crosswalk in Athens, killing one man and wounding another.

Heather Turner, 31, faces two counts of failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crossing and one count of second-degree vehicular homicide, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to the intersection of N. Thomas Street and E. Washington Street, where the collision occurred. Guy Jones, 78, a Woodstock resident, was taken to the hospital and eventually died.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old Woodstock resident was also injured and sent to the hospital.

Turner was uninjured in the accident.
