BREVARD COUNTY, Fla.. (DDN) – A man was detained after being caught driving around 100 mph before leading authorities on a chase that ended on Kennedy Space Center property, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stated they were conducting traffic enforcement near State Road 528 and State Road 401 when they noticed a vehicle “coming in hot” at 100 mph.
According to a news release, while deputies attempted to catch up with the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Taparree Shelton, began weaving in and out of traffic before increasing speed.
“Of course we called our own fast little toy, our helicopter STAR, to maintain a visual on the vehicle as other units arrived to assist,” according to the announcement.

Deputies said Shelton then drove into Kennedy Space Center grounds, where their officers joined the pursuit.
According to the announcement, officials at the Kennedy Space Center were able to deploy stop sticks, which eventually brought Shelton’s vehicle to a halt. Shelton then surrendered to law enforcement on the site.
Deputies said they discovered 2 grams of cocaine on Shelton’s vehicle’s floorboard near the driver seat.
According to the announcement, Shelton is facing accusations of running and eluding, cocaine possession, and careless driving. He was brought to Brevard County Jail on a $13,000 bond.
