WESLACO, Tex. (DDN) – A tragic accident in Madison Twp. claimed the life of an 11-year-old student from Madison Local Schools on Thursday night.
A fifth-grade student named Jaxsen Elkins was hit by an SUV at approximately 7 p.m. in a driveway located in the 6800 block of Cloister Cliffs Drive, close to Brown’s Run golf course. Elkins was transported by medical helicopter to a Dayton hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
Madison Schools closed on Friday, and a prayer gathering is set for 6 p.m. in the elementary gym. A memorial has been established by the flagpole at the school.
The Madison Local School District announced early Friday morning that a tragic accident has involved an elementary student from our Mohawk family. No school today for all students due to the recent event.
The district announced that staff continued to report to work on Friday.

The district announced that counselors were present at the elementary school to provide support for those affected by this tragedy.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones expressed his condolences, stating, “My thoughts and prayers go to the family and first responders to the scene.”
The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the accident. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office does not provide preliminary autopsy reports, and complete reports may take as long as 8 weeks to be released.
