DDN – A 12-vehicle pileup and numerous other car accidents stopped Interstate 65 northbound outside Crown Point for several hours Thursday night and Friday.
Crown Point Fire Rescue first reported the crashes at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Photos from the site show vehicles, pickup trucks, and semis dispersed down the highway. Many semis appeared jackknifed and jammed between other trucks.
Two vehicles, a semi, and a pickup truck, appeared to be ripped and squashed.
First responders did not explain what triggered the pile-up.

Several drivers and passengers were injured and transferred to neighboring hospitals for various treatments. Their condition was unknown.
All highway lanes were stopped for at least six hours as crews investigated and cleaned up. HAZMAT crews were also dispatched to the area to clean up any diesel fuel spilled during the accident.
