15-car Collision on Michigan's I-96 in Whiteout Conditions Causes Major Wrecks and Multiple Injuries

Grand Rapids (DDN) – In the early morning hours of Monday in the state of Michigan, a collision occurred in conditions of whiteout involving as many as fifteen vehicles.

Interstate 96, close to Michigan Highway 37, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was the location of the sequence of accidents that took place on the morning of January 20.

The accident resulted in several automobiles being wrecked in the median of the lane, a box truck being flipped over, and a tractor-trailer entering a ditch along the side of the road, as reported by 13 ABC.

Upon exiting their wrecked vehicle, one of the individuals involved in the collision was struck by another vehicle during the collision. Additionally, there were reports of other injuries.

None of the individuals who were injured in the collision had injuries that were considered to be life-threatening.

At the time of the pile-up, some conditions were described as white-out, and some of the cars were traveling at speeds that were excessive for the conditions.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 96 were closed for less than two hours at Alpine Avenue to facilitate the cleanup of the event. At the time of 12:40 Eastern Standard Time, the Alpine Avenue ramp was still closed.
