15-Year-Old Charged with Criminal Homicide After Fatal Shooting at Nashville’s WeGo Bus Station

Following a deadly shooting at the downtown WeGo bus terminal on Tuesday, the city of Nashville is still dealing with the fallout. A 15-year-old suspect named Shamari Bailey was quickly taken into custody by local police, who have linked him to the death of 16-year-old Braden Caldwell following what was reportedly a violent altercation between the two teenagers. Bailey is currently facing criminal homicide charges in juvenile court, according to the official Nashville Police Department.

Bailey and Caldwell allegedly got into a physical altercation Tuesday at around 4 p.m. Two shots were fired during the altercation, and Caldwell was hit by each of them. He was sent right away to Vanderbilt Pediatrics, where he eventually passed away from his wounds. Because WeGo security personnel already knew Bailey and could easily identify him as the alleged attacker, they helped identify him as a suspect. Bailey was apprehended “without incident just before 7 p.m.,” when police closed in on him, despite reports that he had fled the scene toward 5th Avenue North.

Detectives from the Homicide and TITANS Unit worked together with officers from the Central Precinct and WeGo security personnel to track down the suspect’s movements. Through their combined efforts, they were able to locate and apprehend Bailey at his residence in University Court.

Notably, neither the cause of the deadly altercation nor whether any more charges are anticipated have been disclosed by the Nashville Police Department.
