15-year-old dead, two teens and one adult seriously injured after partial Portsmouth building collapse

Several local crews responded to a tragedy Saturday afternoon in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Portsmouth personnel received multiple 911 calls for a partial building collapse at 35 Power Street, the Portuguese American Citizens Club.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response involving multiple fire departments and rescue teams from Portsmouth, Bristol, Fall River, and Tiverton. Initial reports were 4–5 people trapped inside the building and had to be extricated.

According to Portsmouth Fire personnel, 4 people were significantly injured including 1 fatality, a 15-year-old female.

Two 17-year-old females and a 49-year-old woman were transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The injured were reportedly on the landing/front concrete stairwell in front of the building when it collapsed and no car crash is believed to be involved in the incident.

Police say that about 75 people were attending a graduation party.

The incident is under investigation.
