The FDA ordered an across the nation onion recall that included Gracie’s Kitchen pre-packaged vegetables.
According to Newsweek, the recall covers over 150 of the Connecticut-based company’s ready-to-eat fruit and vegetable products, including watermelons and peppers. The recall is due to probable Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
On November 27, the business initiated a voluntary recall of onions, as well as other vegetables and fruits, which was classified by the FDA on December 30.
Gracie’s Kitchens, King Cullen, and Wild By Nature were the three brand names used to sell food and vegetables in supermarkets in New York and Connecticut. According to the FDA, the products are classified as Class II.
When there is a remote possibility that a product will cause a major health effect that is temporary or medically reversible, the FDA announces a Class II recall.
Although not as urgent as Class I recalls, these recalls are nevertheless significant and are handled with care to avoid any potential injury.
“This recall is being initiated after sampling indicated that Listeria monocytogenes was found in the environment. The firm is working with the FDA,” the FDA confirmed in a statement to the outlet.
The onion recall from Gracie’s Kitchen is only the most recent nationwide food recall. Last week, a countrywide pork recall affected over 10,000 pounds of food.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued two separate recalls for cooked and raw pork products distributed in four states. The initial recall affected Oklahoma customers who had purchased ready-to-eat bologna products under the Ralph’s Circle R brand. The second pork recall involves Old World Italian Sausage stores and restaurants in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
The USDA warns against eating “Old World Sausage” purchased at a deli counter between October 2, 2024, and December 19, 2024, under an unidentifiable brand. Instead, they should throw it out or return it to the store for a full refund.
