FAIRFIELD COUNTY, South Car. (DDN) – According to the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, a teenager died Sunday when a car went off a South Carolina road and smashed into trees.
Deymius Mack, a 17-year-old Great Falls resident, died in what Coroner Chris Hill deemed an accident.
Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the single-vehicle collision occurred around 6 p.m. in Fairfield County. Mack was driving a 2014 Chevrolet car north on U.S. 21, according to Pye.
According to officials, the Chevy raced off the left side of U.S. 21 near the intersection with Wateree Road, colliding with several trees before going down an embankment. Mack, who was wearing a seat belt, died on the scene, according to Hill.
Pye stated that Mack was the only person in the Chevy, and no additional injuries were reported.

The cause of the Chevy’s deviation off the road remained unknown, but the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office are still investigating the collision.
An autopsy has been scheduled to ascertain the cause of Mack’s death. According to the state Department of Public Safety, 52 people have died on South Carolina roadways as of Sunday in 2025. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, at least 948 persons were killed in collisions last year.
According to DPS data, this was the first fatal crash in Fairfield County in 2025. The county had ten deaths in 2024, according to DPS data.
