TENNESSEE (DDN) – A 17-year-old man wanted for allegedly firing at a FedEx delivery truck driver in Tennessee during a road rage incident was apprehended by the US Marshals Service (USMS) on January 22.
His father was also arrested as an accessory to the fugitive hunt.
On December 15, 2024, around 5:20 p.m., officers from the Jackson Police Department (JPD) responded to a report of road rage on S. Highland Avenue.
According to the FedEx driver, a pick-up vehicle nearly collided with him before following him.
Near the Civic Center, the guy allegedly approached the FedEx truck and fired a shot into its side, directly behind the driver’s head. The motorist contacted 911, gave a description of the vehicle, and pursued the suspect.
JPD officers approached the suspect’s car on N. Highland Avenue near Ridgecrest Road and attempted a traffic stop. However, the offender avoided officers and fled eastbound on I-40 at speeds surpassing 100 mph.
Investigators later identified the suspect as a 17-year-old male, and a juvenile petition was filed for his arrest on charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a handgun during a hazardous felony, felony reckless endangerment, and felony evading arrest.
The United States Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) in Jackson was called in to help with the hunt.
On January 22, deputy marshals and task force officers apprehended the kid at his home in Lexington, Tennessee. During the investigation, the teen’s father, Ricky Maness Jr., 44, gave incorrect information regarding his son’s location.
Authorities later discovered the guy hiding behind a bed. He was taken into arrest and transferred to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
Maness was charged as an accessory after the fact and brought into the Henderson County Detention Center.
Since 2021, the U.S. Marshals Service’s Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force in western Tennessee has arrested approximately 3,000 violent felons and sexual predators.
