ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (DDN) – A stolen vehicle containing seven individuals, including several minors, led law police on a chase early Thursday before colliding with Lee Road in Orange County, according to sheriff’s authorities.
The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Lee Road near Adanson Street.
The stolen vehicle, a gray Mitsubishi, was reported missing Wednesday in Osceola County. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office told Polk County authorities at 1 a.m. Thursday that the car had been spotted near Ronald Reagan Parkway and Champions Gate Boulevard in unincorporated Davenport.
The sheriff’s office claimed its deputies, helicopter, and Florida Highway Patrol were pursuing the vehicle, which eventually returned to Osceola County and Orange County before crashing on Lee Road.
According to the FHP, one of its troopers saw the vehicle driving east on I-4 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle exited at Lee Road and proceeded west. Troopers tried a PIT maneuver, but the vehicle veered into the eastbound lane, colliding with a 2019 Honda Insight and a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu.
According to troopers, everyone in the stolen automobile, as well as the drivers of the other two vehicles, were sent to the hospital.
Polk County deputies reported that seven people were in the stolen vehicle, including a 13-year-old, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and two 17-year-olds. The teenagers are all from Orlando.
The driver, Christopher Smith, 18, is facing charges, as is a 16-year-old passenger. According to the sheriff’s office, Smith is facing various counts, including burglary and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
