19-year-old Dies in Carroll County Single-vehicle Crash on New Year's Day; Another Passenger Injured

DDN – An accident involving a single vehicle that occurred early on New Year’s Day in Carroll County resulted in the death of a 19-year-old male.

Following the Virginia State Police, Elijah B. Slavey, who was from Low Gap, North Carolina, passed away at the scene.

In the early morning hours of January 1, the collision took place on Route 643.

The 2013 Nissan Altima that Slavey was driving was traveling in the southern direction when he was unable to navigate a bend, ran off the left side of the road, and collided with a tree as it was standing. Afterward, the vehicle collided with a second tree.

Not a single seatbelt was being worn by Slavey.

One of the passengers in the Nissan, Marvin D. Delp III, who was 19 years old, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A seatbelt was fastened around Delp’s waist.

VSP has not yet completed its investigation into the crash.
