DURHAM, N.C. (DDN) – A 19-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Randolph County on Thursday night.
Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 6:15 p.m. on State Road 227 near the intersection with U.S. 36.
According to preliminary information, a black 2000 Ford Ranger pickup vehicle was traveling northbound on State Road 227.
The pickup truck’s driver allegedly failed to yield to a stop sign in the area before losing control of the vehicle, according to RCSO. The vehicle crossed onto US 36, drove off the west side of the road, and rolled multiple times before colliding with a utility pole.
The motorist was sent to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of “serious” injuries. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the RCSO.
Devon Lumpkin of Union City, Ohio, was 19 years old when he died.
The Lynn Fire Department, Winchester Fire Department, Union City Fire Department, Randolph County EMS, and Randolph County Coroner’s Office all aided on the site.
The crash is still under investigation.
