(CBS DETROIT) An early-morning collision on eastbound I-96 in Detroit on Tuesday left two individuals hospitalized.
The collision occurred on eastbound I-96 close to Schaefer Highway at approximately 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday. A Jeep Wagoneer struck a disabled Chevrolet Cruze that was blocking the left lane with its lights off, according to Michigan State Police.
The Cruze’s driver, a 31-year-old Detroit male, was discovered unconscious by the time troopers arrived. He was brought to a nearby medical facility. A 51-year-old Canton resident who was the Wagoneer’s driver was also sent to the hospital.
According to MSP, neither motorist was buckled up at the time of the collision.
MSP Lt. Mike Shaw stated, “At the time of the collision, neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.” “Seatbelt use has decreased from 97.9% in 2009 to 92% this year. Be sure to fasten your seat belt whenever you get into your vehicle.
