20-year-old Arrested After Early Morning Shooting Leaves Man in Serious Condition on Indianapolis' Northwest Side

INDIANAPOLIS (DDN) – Police have detained a 20-year-old guy in connection with an early Saturday morning gunshot that left a man in serious condition.

The identity of the individual shot was not disclosed in a news release published Monday by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Edwin Gonzalez-Diaz was detained shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of Lafayette Road. This is in a business district just north of the intersection with West 38th Street on the city’s northwest side.

Gonzalez-Diaz was detained on preliminary allegations of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal irresponsibility. According to IMPD, he is expected to appear in court on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

According to the announcement, many witnesses offered authorities critical information about what transpired, as well as a vehicle description. However, the announcement did not specify what may have led to the shooting.

According to the announcement, the vehicle described by witnesses was recovered at a nearby apartment complex. The name of the residential complex was not disclosed in the announcement.

“Officers then knocked on an apartment door, and cooperative residents led them directly to Gonzalez-Diaz.” He was taken into custody without incident and suspected evidence from the shooting was discovered and recovered, according to the release.
