2025 RINGS IN VIOLENCE IN CHICAGO At Least 13 Shot, Including One Fatality, in Early Morning Shootings Across the City

As of 6 a.m. on January 1, at least 13 individuals have been shot in Chicago, including one deceased.

The first shooting of 2025 took place in Wicker Park, according to Chicago police. A 29-year-old man claimed being in a car in the 1600 block of West Division when he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg at 2 a.m.

The man continued to the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk Hotel, 301 East North Water Street, where a relative requested assistance.

Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of West Division at 2:20 a.m. to deal with a huge throng that had spilled into the street as adjacent pubs closed for the night. There were no reports of shots fired in connection with the incident, however.

The first homicide of the new year was reported around 3:30 a.m. in the 9400 block of South Harvard. CPD reported a 29-year-old man was discovered unresponsive at the site but provided no other information.

Other shootings have been recorded since midnight, according to police media reports.

  • A 33-year-old male was shot in the hand while driving in the 500 block of South Kostner at around 2:35 a.m.
  • At around 2:47 a.m., a 44-year-old man was shot inside a home in the 3100 block of South Green. The gunman fled the scene.
  • A 38-year-old male shot a 43-year-old woman numerous times after an argument inside a home on the 1200 block of South Sawyer approximately 2:50 a.m.
  • An dispute broke out between three males and a woman inside a home in the 4200 block of West Wilcox around 3 a.m. The disagreement became physical, and one of the men pulled out a revolver, striking a 22-year-old male in the shoulder.
  • At 3:05 a.m., a gunman driving a red vehicle shot a 30-year-old man in the face in the 4500 block of South Champlain.
  • A 32-year-old guy is in arrest after reportedly shooting a 46-year-old man in the foot around 3:10 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Eberhardt.
  • Around 3:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg and foot inside a home on the 6600 block of South State.
  • A 24-year-old guy was shot in the ankle inside a home on the 6900 block of South Hoyne around 4:20 a.m.
  • A 36-year-old woman was wounded in the arm inside a home in the 13100 block of South Ingleside around 4:25 a.m.
  • Around 4:30 a.m., a 35-year-old male was shot in the left hand while walking on South Wentworth.
  • At 4:30 a.m., a 42-year-old woman was shot in the foot in the foyer of an apartment complex on North Latrobe’s first block.
