25-Year-Old Suspect Arrested in Northeast DC Homicide of Erik Mewborn

An arrest has been made by authorities in relation to a homicide that took place earlier this fall in the Northeast. The district’s 44-year-old victim, Erik Mewborn, was discovered dead on Adams Place from a gunshot wound.

Officers were called to the scene on September 14 when a male was reported down shortly after 5 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department. They couldn’t bring Mewborn back to life after finding him unconscious. When DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene, they discovered no evidence of life and pronounced the man dead.

Members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force executed a DC Superior Court warrant yesterday, making the arrest. Jeremiah Simms, a 25-year-old resident of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was arrested as the suspect.

In relation to a gunshot death, Simms faces charges of Second Degree Murder While Armed. As part of the city’s efforts to address the escalating violence, he was arrested quickly. See the official notice from the Metropolitan Police Department for further information.
