DDN – A 27-year-old Detroit woman died Sunday after being ejected from her automobile during a crash on Interstate 94 near Woodward Avenue, according to officials.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers were dispatched at 4:35 a.m. to a site on westbound I-94 near Woodward for a complaint of a person being struck in the freeway’s left lane. Police claimed they arrived and discovered an unresponsive person lying in the road. Medics transported the victim to a hospital.
Authorities said an investigation indicated that the woman was the driver of a Chevrolet Impala that wrecked nearby.
According to investigators, the 27-year-old lost control of the Chevrolet on a ramp, skidded off the pavement, down the slope, and ended up in the right lane of the interstate. According to MSP, the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the incident and landed on the roadway’s left shoulder.
According to police, the motorist did not appear to be wearing her seatbelt. It was one of two collisions on Metro Detroit roadways on Sunday in which a person was ejected from a car without wearing a seatbelt, according to officials.
The second incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 696 near Southfield Road in Southfield. Police stated the incident was “serious” and “with an ejection,” so they briefly closed the freeway. The crash is still under investigation.
According to the most recent Michigan State Police data, 994 people died on state roadways in 2024 as of December 10.
According to the report, 21 people died on Michigan roadways in the week leading up to December 10. In addition, 124 persons were critically injured in crashes that week, bringing the statewide total to 5,388 so far.
According to state police, there were 17 more fatalities in 2024 than in the same period the previous year, but 38 fewer serious injuries.
