BRADENTON, Flo. (DDN) – According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 31-year-old Bradenton man was killed Thursday evening after ramming his pickup truck into a telephone pole while attempting to flee arrest.
Troopers said the tragic accident occurred after the motorist fled the scene of another crash on Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota County. According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the man, Cody M. Burrow, fled from deputies who were attempting to arrest him.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop Burrow around 5:38 p.m. on Beneva Road and Webber Road on a warrant for a felony drug charge. Instead of stopping, Burrow allegedly slammed his gray Ford F-150 into a Tesla and numerous sheriff’s office vehicles, wounding a deputy before racing away.
Roughly ten minutes later, deputies say they were alerted to a wreck on Lockwood Ridge Road, roughly six miles from where they last saw Burrow. According to investigators, Burrow drove over the grassy median on Lockwood Ridge Road, entered into the southbound lanes, and went onto the shoulder, colliding with a telephone pole after exiting the University Club Apartments driveway.
According to a news announcement, paramedics pronounced Burrow on the scene. The injured deputy was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and is expected to fully recover, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the collision.
