40-year-old Man Seriously Injured in Kitchen Fire at Warren Apartment Building

WARREN (DDN) – A fire at a Warren apartment complex resulted in significant burn injuries to a man, according to fire officials. According to the Warren Fire Department, the fire started on the second floor of a four-unit building on Republic Avenue, near Nine Mile and Hoover, around 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, January 25th.

Firefighters found “heavy smoke and flames concentrated in the kitchen area” and rescued a 40-year-old male. At the same moment, they started the process of putting out the fire.

They knocked down the flames (suppressed them to the point where they were no longer active or visible) by 7:38 p.m. and extinguished the entire fire within half an hour of their arrival, according to a press release from fire officials.

The individual sustained “severe burn injuries to a significant portion of his body,” according to fire officials.

He was transported to a waiting stretcher by fire department personnel before being conveyed to Detroit Receiving Hospital. His condition has not been published.

According to fire officials, smoke and water caused damage to the three other units. No other injuries were reported. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.
