5-Car Crash in Chicago Sends Four to Hospital including 2 Cops, Investigation Underway

CHICAGO, Illi. (DDN) – Late Wednesday night, a five-car crash occurred in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago, involving two police vehicles—one marked and one unmarked.

Police report that the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of West North Avenue. A gray minivan turned onto northbound Cicero Avenue and collided with an unmarked Chicago police vehicle that was responding to a service call, with its lights and sirens on.

A police vehicle that was not marked was struck, leading it to collide with a gray sedan that was halted at a red light. This sedan then impacted a black pickup truck that was also waiting at the light, as reported by authorities.

A marked squad car waiting at a red light was struck by a wheel that detached from the gray minivan involved in the crash, according to police reports.

Additionally, the two individuals in the gray sedan — a 23-year-old female driver and a 20-year-old male passenger — were also taken to a nearby hospital by Chicago Fire Department personnel, both with minor injuries and in good condition.

Authorities report that traffic citations are forthcoming, and detectives specializing in Major Accidents are looking into the situation.
