53-year-old Detroit Man Charged With Two Shootings, Including Attack on Police Outside His Home

DDN – A Detroit man is facing a plethora of charges after Macomb County authorities accused him of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend in Eastpointe and then firing at Eastpointe police officers outside his Detroit house as they were investigating the previous shooting.

According to authorities, the man disguised himself as a lady during the Eastpointe shooting on Friday outside the victim’s vehicle in the 15000 block of 9 Mile Road.

Shawn Davidson, 53, is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $2 million bond after the county prosecutor’s office charged him with 18 counts in the two shootings, including assault with intent to murder, felony firearm offenses, discharge of a firearm in a building, tampering with evidence in a criminal case, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and carrying a concealed weapon.

John Gerlach, an attorney who represented Davidson at the arraignment, told the Free Press on Tuesday that “my client’s innocent and remains innocent throughout this entire process,” and that Davidson is “cloaked with the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

According to a news release from the prosecutor’s office, Davidson drove to the victim’s apartment, waited for him to return home, and then shot him in the chest outside his vehicle. According to authorities, the sufferer was transferred to a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.

Eastpointe police stated the suspect approached the victim dressed in a wig, pink tight pants, a pink top, and a black jacket, and “it was obvious that the suspect tried to disguise himself as a woman.” It stated that the guy spoke with the victim briefly before pulling out a revolver and shooting him in the chest before fleeing.

Dawn Fraylick, the prosecutor’s office’s communications director, stated that the suspect and ex-girlfriend had a long-term connection and that the ex-girlfriend had lately begun seeing the victim.

The second shooting occurred when Eastpointe police executed a search warrant at Davidson’s home in the 17000 block of Albion Avenue, on Detroit’s northeast side. The prosecutor’s office alleged that Davidson shot through the front door at the police. The bullet missed.

According to the news release, officers did not shoot back because they couldn’t see the subject. It reported that cops bargained with him to surrender.

Davidson was arraigned Monday in Eastpointe’s 38th District Court, where he stood quiet and the court entered a not-guilty plea, according to online records.

A magistrate ordered that Davidson not leave the state, possess no drugs, alcohol, weapons, or firearms, and have no contact with the victim if he posts bond. If Davidson is freed on bond, he will be required to wear a steel cuff GPS tether and remain at home, according to an announcement from the prosecutor’s office.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for January 15. The preliminary exam is set for January 22.
