55-Year-Old Man Airlifted After SUV Crashes Into Ditch on I-84 near Wendell; Dogs Taken In by Animal Control

WENDELL, Ida. (DDN) – On Monday, a 55-year-old man was hurt after his automobile crashed into a ditch beside Interstate 84.

According to the Gooding County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services arrived at the freeway near milepost 149 at 2:33 p.m. after a black SUV mysteriously wound up in a ditch along the right shoulder of the westbound lanes.

For about 20 minutes, deputies closed all westbound lanes from milepost 151 to milepost 149 so that an Air St. Luke’s helicopter could transport the driver, who was injured, to a hospital.

According to the City of Wendell, the driver’s dogs were taken up by an animal control officer until they are able to go back home.

According to the deputies at the site, the crews intend to pull the automobile out of the ditch as soon as they can safely bring a tow truck close to the car.

An investigation is presently underway on the crash.

The Wendell Fire Department and Gooding County Ambulance were also on the scene to provide assistance.
