76-year-old Driver Hits Semi-truck and Worker in Serious Lubbock Crash Under Investigation

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is now investigating a serious crash that occurred Monday morning, leaving one person seriously injured.

Officers were notified of the incident at 10:44 a.m. on December 30th, in the 4300 block of North Loop 289.

According to preliminary findings, the tragedy occurred when 36-year-old Gregg Vargas was working near his semi-truck.

According to authorities, an SUV driven by 76-year-old William Nelson collided with Vargas and the semi-truck while backing out of a nearby parking place. Vargas was then taken to University Medical Center by emergency medical personnel with critical injuries.**
