, the man was crossing Southern Avenue in the middle of the block when the incident occurred.

The individual driving the vehicle that hit the man was a 61-year-old male behind the wheel of a Jeep Liberty. After the collision, the driver remained on scene, and as per the preliminary investigation, showed no signs of impairment. The man in the wheelchair was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. Police have not yet released his name, only identifying him as a 77-year-old man. The Phoenix Police Department Vehicular Crimes detectives are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
