85-year-old School Bus Driver Killed After Being Struck by Another Bus in Maple Shade, New Jersey

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (DDN) – On Tuesday afternoon in Maple Shade, New Jersey, a school bus driver died after being struck by another bus.

It occurred around 3:30 p.m. in a bus garage at Maple Shade High School.

Police identified the victim as Maple Shade resident Jack Hohwald, 85.

According to authorities, the driver of the striking bus remained at the site. No charges have been brought thus far.

“I have some extremely sad news to share with you. “One of our beloved employees has tragically died in an accident in our bus garage,” Superintendent Beth Norcia said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim was outside his bus when he was hit by another district driver.

Students were unable to attend classes on Wednesday.

“This will help our school community process the loss and support one another. We recognize that such news can be deeply upsetting, and we are committed to providing the necessary help during this time,” Norcia stated.

The Burlington County Crisis Response Team and counselors will be available to staff and kids throughout the remainder of the week.
