85-Year-Old Woman Unhurt After Car Launches from Garage Roof in West Seattle Mishap

An 85-year-old Kirkland woman had a shocking encounter this morning when her Toyota flew from a West Seattle garage roof. The incident happened on the 10800 block of Arroyo Beach Place Southwest shortly before 4:30 a.m., according to the Seattle Police Department’s blotter. Officers on the scene discovered that the woman had accidentally used the accelerator rather than the brake, sending her automobile over a precipice and into an empty car below.

The elderly driver was trapped inside her automobile, dangerously perched on another vehicle, as a result of the incident. Personnel from the Seattle Fire Department raced to the scene to securely remove the woman from her dangerous situation. The woman was amazingly unharmed despite the glass fragments and twisted metal. Following usual procedure in situations like this where there is a chance of invisible damage, she was then taken to a nearby hospital for assessment.

Although there were little specifics on the accident, it is evident that the Seattle Police and Fire Departments responded and coordinated admirably. As the morning came to life, teams put in endless effort to clear the scene and cause the least amount of disturbance to the surrounding region, in addition to ensuring the safety of the person involved.

Similar instances involving senior drivers have increased noticeably in recent years. It starts conversations about driving, age, and safety—discussions that are intricately linked to independence, capacity, and the general welfare. In order to preserve the woman’s privacy as she heals from an obviously painful event, her identify has not been disclosed.
