Fall River, MA — In a heartfelt tribute to service and sacrifice, the Fall River School Committee will honor Richard Gosson, an 88-year-old Korean War veteran and Fall River native, by awarding him his high school diploma through Operation Recognition — a statewide program that grants diplomas to veterans who left school to serve in the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War.

The diploma presentation will take place during the Fall River School Committee meeting on Monday, June 9th at 5:30 p.m. at B.M.C. Durfee High School.

Gosson served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Like many of his generation, he put his education on hold to serve his country, never receiving the diploma he was scheduled to earn.

Operation Recognition provides a meaningful opportunity to recognize veterans’ sacrifices while honoring their educational goals. The upcoming ceremony will celebrate Gosson’s service, character, and long-overdue academic achievement.
