A somber mood has enveloped Lake City following an unfortunate event where a 9-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle on a quiet street. According to

, the incident took place yesterday on SW Birley Avenue as the child entered the roadway from the east shoulder.
The girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries. The driver, a 19-year-old woman heading north at the time of the accident, fortunately, did not suffer any injuries and was found to have been wearing her seat-belt. It is yet to really been confirmed whether speed, distractions, or other factors contributed to the unfortunate event, but the FHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Traffic around the scene was subsequently managed to allow emergency responders to tend to the victim and to conduct preliminary investigations. According to a
