Exploring the Most Gayest Places In Utah For 2024

The cities in Utah with the highest LGBTQ+ population are Vernal and Nephi for 2024, according to Saturday Night Science. Summary of research on the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Utah. We used Saturday Night Science to study the cities in Utah that have the highest percentage of households with same-sex couples in 2024. The information is derived from the American Community Survey 2013-2018 vintage. This survey provides details on gender based on household status. Unfortunately, the Census no longer provides information at the city level. Therefore, this report only includes the most recent data available.

  • Vernal has the highest rate of same-sex households in Utah. 2.23% of households in Vernal consist of gay individuals.
  • Salt Lake City, located in Utah, has the highest number of households with same-sex couples, with a total of 543 gay households.
  • Utah is ranked as the 30th most gay-friendly state in the United States.

About 0.84% of people living in Utah identify as gay. That means there are a total of 9,541 households with gay individuals in The Beehive State. Our aim with this post is to use Saturday Night Science and data to find out which cities in Utah have a higher LGBTQ+ population.

After studying 97 cities in Utah with more than 1,000 households, we have identified the cities that are considered the most LGBTQ+ friendly for the year 2024.

Method to Determine the Best Gayest Cities in Utah

To determine the ranking of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in Utah, we analyzed data from Saturday Night Science and the 2013-2018 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census. We examined:

  • Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners

We only analyzed non-CDPs that have more than 1,000 households.

We assigned a ranking from 1 to 97 to each place based on the percentage of unmarried, same-sex partner households. The city with the highest percentage of these households is considered the most gay. In the end, it turned out to be the place with the highest percentage of gay households, at 2.23%. This report is our tenth edition of ranking the most LGBTQ-friendly places in Utah.
