Summary of research on the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Ohio. We used Saturday Night Science to study the cities in Ohio that have the highest percentage of households with same-sex couples in 2024. The information is sourced from the American Community Survey 2013-2018 vintage. This survey provides details on gender and household status. Unfortunately, the Census no longer provides information at the city level. Therefore, this report only includes the most recent data available.
- The city in Ohio with the highest rate of households headed by same-sex couples is Granville. 5.34% of households in Granville consist of gay individuals.
- The city in Ohio with the highest number of households where same-sex couples live is Columbus, with 2,720 gay households.
- Ohio is ranked as the 33rd most gay-friendly state in the United States.
About 0.83% of people living in Ohio identify as gay. That means there are a total of 40,626 households with gay individuals in The Buckeye State. Our aim for this post is to use Saturday Night Science and data to identify the cities in Ohio with the highest LGBTQ+ population.
Based on our analysis of 345 cities in Ohio with over 1,000 households, we have identified the cities that are considered the most LGBTQ+ friendly for the year 2024.

Method to determine the best cities for same-sex households in Ohio
To determine the ranking of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in Ohio, we relied on data from Saturday Night Science and the 2013-2018 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. government. The census. We examined:
- Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners
We only analyzed non-CDPs that have more than 1,000 households. We assigned a ranking from 1 to 345 to each place based on the percentage of unmarried, same-sex partner households. The city with the highest percentage of these households is considered the most gay.
In the end, it turned out to be the place with the highest percentage of gay households, at 5.34%.
