After Two Tornadoes Hit Michigan, a Young Child Died, and His Mother Was Hospitalized

Today, two tornadoes occurred in different parts of Lower Michigan. According to the National Weather Service, one of the tornadoes caused a large tree to fall on a home in Livonia. This resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child and critical injuries to the child’s mother.

The tornado that caused the death occurred in Livonia, which is located northwest of Detroit, around 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Detroit sent a survey team on Wednesday night to confirm that a tornado had touched down in Livonia. The National Weather Service estimates that the wind speeds were between 90 and 95 miles per hour. This classifies the tornado as an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Many trees were damaged in Livonia and there were also power outages reported. In the southeastern part of the state, where the storms were particularly severe, over 30,000 homes and businesses lost power.

The Livonia Police expressed their condolences on social media tonight following the tornado fatality. They also shared some helpful tips for staying safe during the aftermath and cleanup process. The Livonia Police Department expresses its heartfelt sympathy to the family who tragically lost their child in an accident caused by a rapidly forming tornado. The tornado hit several neighborhoods, resulting in a tree falling on their home.

Another tornado occurred in Crawford County, to the east of Grayling and northeast of Roscommon. The tornado lasted for a very short time. The picture above shows the red and green wind rotation couplet when it touched down.

The National Weather Service in Gaylord has finished conducting the storm survey. The tornado has been rated as an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The tornado was on the ground for approximately 0.3 miles and stayed there for one minute. The tornado was 90 yards wide and had maximum winds of about 80 mph.
