Gainesville, Fla. – Early Sunday morning, George Robert Carlyon, a 33-year-old homeless man, was arrested for threatening another man with a knife and damaging the man’s car.
At around 3:45 a.m., police were called to SE 1st Street in Gainesville. The victim told officers that Carlyon followed him to his car after he had turned down Carlyon’s advances at a nearby bar. Carlyon then threatened him with a six-inch pocket knife, saying, “I’m going to hurt you, I’m going to kill you.” The victim defended himself with a guitar and got into his car. Carlyon then stabbed the car’s tire and windshield before walking away to look for his dog.
The officer who arrived at the scene saw that the car’s windshield was damaged and the tire was slashed. The estimated repair cost is $800.
While the officer was there, a witness identified Carlyon as the attacker. Carlyon denied the accusations, saying the victim tried to steal his shoe. A six-inch pocket knife was found on Carlyon, but he refused to answer questions about it.
Carlyon has been charged with aggravated assault and property damage. He has six previous misdemeanour convictions, none of which were violent. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set his bail at $30,000.
