Deputy Brad Reckling was tragically killed while on duty, prompting an urgent appeal for tips that could help solve the case.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday. Deputy Reckling, a 30-year-old officer with nine years of service, was in an unmarked patrol car searching for a stolen SUV.

The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day from the Red Oaks Water Park in Madison Heights.

According to the source, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported that Reckling was struck in the head, chest, and torso during the ambush.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard described the attack as a deliberate ambush in a press conference held on Sunday afternoon.

In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement agencies, including the Detroit Police Department (DPD) and Michigan State Police, quickly established a perimeter in the area.

This led to the apprehension of three suspects, although no further details about them were provided. As of Monday, no additional updates on the suspects had been released.

The DPD has asked anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has relevant information to contact the DPD’s Homicide Task Force at 313-596-2260.
