Swim for Free: Dive Into New York City's Best Pool Deals

New Yorkers have a refreshing opportunity to beat the heat and enjoy quality family time at no cost, thanks to a statewide initiative promoting outdoor activities and water safety. Governor Hochul’s campaign, “Get Offline, Get Outside,” aims to encourage young people to disconnect from screens and experience the joys of outdoor recreation. With an investment of $150 million, the initiative offers free access to select state pools across New York State until the end of the summer season.

Families and individuals alike can take advantage of this offer at various locations, including urban oases like the Roberto Clemente State Park Pool in the Bronx and the Riverbank State Park Pools in Manhattan. In the Hudson Valley, pools such as Bear Mountain State Park Pool in Bear Mountain and FDR State Park Pool in Yorktown await visitors seeking a cool respite from the summer sun. Long Island offers scenic options like Jones Beach State Park West Bathhouse Pool in Wantagh and Montauk Downs State Park Pool in Montauk, providing coastal escapes for locals and tourists alike.

The initiative promotes physical activity and addresses a critical issue: drowning, which remains a leading cause of death among young children statewide. By making swimming accessible and free, Governor Hochul hopes to instill water safety awareness and encourage families to enjoy recreational activities together. While admission is waived, visitors are reminded that parking fees may still apply at some locations.

This summer, New Yorkers are encouraged to embrace the opportunity to swim, splash, and create lasting memories at these state pools, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for New York’s natural beauty.
