A guy was questioned by Detroit police on Thursday regarding his use of a drone during a Green Day performance on Wednesday night. The band ran off the stage as a result.
“There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, and because of that, Green Day was taken off the stage,” According to Detroit Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dan Donakowski. “DPD did locate the individual. He is being detained pending further investigation.”
Stage screens said, “SHOW PAUSE: PLEASE, STANDBY FOR DETAILS,” as the drone took off and the band broke up.
About ten minutes after the incident, Green Day took the stage again to perform for another 30,000 or so fans.
When crew workers noticed the drone, they signaled the band, and the drone left the stage.
“Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue,” the band wrote in a statement posted on its X account on Wednesday. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”
Detroit Police Sgt. Daren Zhou said that although a federal investigation is in progress, the man who is believed to have been operating the drone was not taken into custody.
Zhou stated that, “We’ve forwarded the case to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.”
According to an FAA representative, the agency may not be able to prosecute drone operators for putting humans in danger, but it may suspend their pilot certificates and punish them up to $30,000.
Green Day, who appeared on Good Morning America in July, is now touring in support of their album Savior.
The band is celebrating its 30th anniversary by performing songs from the American Idiot album along with the full version of Dookie on the Savior tour.
The band’s first new album in four years is called Savior. The Linda Lindas, Rancid, and Smashing Pumpkins are among the other acts on the tour.

Enrique Iglesias injured his fingers in 2015 as he grabbed a camera drone during a performance in Tijuana, Mexico. Iglesias, who was gushing blood, went off stage to get bandaged.
