The Historic Jefferson Hotel, Jefferson

In the East Texas hamlet of Jefferson, almost every building has a ghost tale, but the Historic Jefferson Hotel is thought to be one of the most haunted locations.

After being converted from a cotton warehouse to a hotel at the turn of the century, paranormal activity has continued to take place on the site.

Make reservations for Room 19, also referred to as the Haunted Room, if you want the full experience.

According to local mythology, the room still harbors the ghost of a jilted bride who died there after being abandoned at the altar. To further enhance the ambience, the hotel even hangs a bridal dress in the room.

Yorktown Memorial Hospital, Yorktown

Formerly known as Yorktown Memorial Hospital, it served as a drug and alcohol treatment facility from 1951 until 1986, when it was shut down in 1992. The Felician Sisters, a religious order, founded it.

Old Alton Bridge, Copper Canyon

Old Alton Bridge, sometimes called Goatman’s Bridge in the community, is an iron truss bridge with a spooky appearance and a particularly unsettling past.

Oscar Washburn, a black man who went by the nickname “the Goatman,” established a prosperous company in the region in the late 1930s. Unfortunately, the local Klan became enraged by his achievement, and one night in 1938 they abducted him.

After dragging him from his house, they flung him over the Old Alton Bridge while securing a noose around his neck. But when they peered over the side, they saw that Washburn had vanished completely and the noose was empty.

When driving across the bridge, locals advise you to always keep your headlights on because driving without them gives the impression that you are a member of the KKK.
