“A Tombstone Every Mile” is a song that is based on this road and pretty well captures the horror that has happened here. It’s common to see a woman yelling that her husband is trapped in the wreckage of what used to be their car and pleading with passersby to stop.
When someone get too close, she disappears. Another ghost of a little child struck by a semi-truck appears.
Route 26 Hitchhiker (Poland)
Route 26’s luminous specter is a young woman hitchhiking while wearing an elaborate outfit.
According to some stories, she was a bride who died in a tragic accident in the 1930s; according to other stories, she was a teenager who was headed to the prom.
According to a different account, she was killed before being married as a bride. In any case, even though she might courteously ask others for a ride, she never seems to get out of the car before reaching her destination.
Seguin Island Lighthouse (Phippsburg)
There is a story in the area about a former caretaker who got his young, bored wife a piano.
It came with one sheet music song, which she played repeatedly until her husband, mad from the repetition, took an axe to the piano and killed both his wife and himself.
People claim to have seen the specter of the lightkeeper on the grounds, and they can still hear his wife’s constant playing of the song in the breeze.
