Teens Charged with Over 100 Felonies for Vandalizing Antelope School

After being linked to a series of crimes at an Antelope middle school that cost the district almost $100,000 in damages to school property, twelve teenagers from Sacramento are facing serious repercussions.

A huge investigation was sparked by six reports between April and July, during which time investigators combed through hundreds of hours of security video that deputies claimed showed the children in question.

“All these crimes were simply to cause havoc and mayhem,” stated Sgt. Amar Gandhi, the sheriff’s representative.

Out of the twelve teenagers who were identified, ten are currently in police custody and the other two are at large. They are all accused of 106 felonies in total.

56 counts of burglary, 35 counts of conspiracy, 11 counts of vandalism, one count of possessing a dangerous device with the aim to intimidate, and one count of recklessly possessing a destructive device are among the charges.

“That’s having a bomb and having the intent of using the bomb. That is much more serious charge than these other ones,” criminal defense attorney Blair Goss stated.

Goss points out that the kids’ age will be a significant factor in their punishment if found guilty, notwithstanding the police’s assertion that they are not pupils at the school.

“If these kids are under 14, they get a lot of benefits. The court will look to see how sophisticated they were, did they know the difference between right and wrong,” Goss stated.

Goss points out that the juvenile justice system prioritizes rehabilitation over hardship even in cases of conviction.

“They get whatever they need to make sure this doesn’t happen again, but they’re not going to lock them away and throw away the key,” Goss stated.
