Built in the shape of a pentagon out of granite and stone, Fort Warren was abandoned in 1947, not long after the Civil War started. It bears the name of Dr. Joseph Warren, a Revolutionary War hero who sent Paul Revere on his renowned ride.
Witnesses claim that the spectral woman in black haunting the fort is the wife of Lt. Andrew Lanier, who was held captive here during the Civil War.
Wearing men’s clothes, the devastated woman snuck onto the island in an attempt to see her husband and aid in his escape. After they were apprehended, her spouse was shot, and she received a hanging sentence.
She was handed a black dress that had been used in a soldiers’ performance after requesting permission to be hanged in women’s clothes. On the island, many have reported seeing her spirit and occasionally hearing her scream and groan.

The Mount Estate
The mansion and museum containing relics related to novelist Edith Wharton, which has been featured on TV’s Ghost Hunters, is rumored to be home to the ghost of the author.
Along with her husband Teddy Wharton, a servant girl, and an elderly man who may have been Wharton’s boyfriend during their brief stay have all been sighted.

Endicott College
There are three supposedly haunted locations at Endicott College. First of all, there are enigmatic events that occur at Brindle Hall, such as strange noises like pebbles rolling on the roof or hissing, shades that raise on their own, and trees that bend to form the word Julie—the name of the girl who used to live on the fourth floor—outside.
After that, there are reports of a ghost girl appearing in mirror reflections, pool balls moving on their own, the piano playing by itself, furniture moving, doors knocking, and, similar to Brindle Hall, shades rising on their own in Reynolds Hall.
And according to folklore, a young woman’s ghost appears at old Winthrop Hall waiting for her beloved to return from the sea while dressed in a white gown.
When she realized he wouldn’t be returning, she is reported to have leaped to her death from the widow’s walk.
