Edinburgh Castle is said to be haunted by several people. The most well-known spirits that inhabit Edinburgh Castle are some of these ones.
The Rude Inmate
As Edinburgh Castle served as a prison, one of the inmates made the decision to immerse themselves in human feces. He thought he could wait in the disgusting place and then flee once it was emptied.
He was unaware that the human waste had been thrown off a neighboring cliff. The prisoner was dumped in with the trash. He died when he crashed onto the rocks below.
The prisoner continues to haunt the hills. Peering over the side of the castle, visitors say they smell a horrible, rotten scent just before they are prodded from behind.
The Widow of King Malcolm III
When two stone structures were built atop Castle Rock in 1093, King Malcolm III of Scotland passed away. Margaret, his widow and resident of the castle, learned of her partner’s passing. In a few of days, she “died of grief.” The brother of the late King besieged the fortress in the meantime.
Employees at the castle recount hearing a late-night cry of sorrow and anguish from a woman. When Margaret learned of her late partner’s passing in November, her weeping became more frequent.
Combatants in the Army
The most besieged location in Great Britain is reputed to be Edinburgh Castle. Perhaps the ghosts who haunt this place are still attacking the castle.
Strange mists and sharp decreases in temperature are felt by onlookers as shadowy figures are spotted charging the grounds. Some guests even say they feel like someone is pulling on their clothing.
Drummer Boy Without Head
A headless drummer kid encounter is among the more historic sightings. This spirit has been documented in writing since the 1600s. Soldiers from the castle would tell stories of seeing a headless youngster banging drums and hearing a drum go off.
The drummer kid without a head was a kind spirit. He would start beating his drums just before an assault. When a soldier saw the youngster, they would warn others of possible danger.

Lady Glamis (Janet Douglas)
In the 1500s, a Scottish noblewoman named Lady Glamis was charged with witchcraft. A scaffold was constructed by workers especially for her alleged crimes. Her son witnessed her terrible demise as she was burnt at the stake.
She is now recognized as the sobbing gray woman who wails dejectedly as she wanders around the castle.
As she walks by, they can also hear hammers, which could be the sound of the people who constructed her scaffold. She sobs as she goes throughout the hallways, remembering her terrible demise.
Bagpipe Boy
A lot of people are unaware that the castle is connected to a network of tunnels below ground. A long time ago, a small bagpiper lad was sent downstairs to explore the tunnels on his own. He was advised to play his bagpipe so that people might follow him.
Sadly, using a piper to navigate the maze-like tunnel system in the dark would be too challenging. The piper abruptly stopped being played, and the boy vanished from view.
Even now, workmen claim to have heard faint bagpipe sounds coming from beneath the castle’s flooring, particularly on chilly evenings.
