A Covington man, identified as Mark Antonio White, 23, was recently convicted for a fatal robbery that claimed the life of 39-year-old Garcia Danielle Gaddis in October 2021. The conviction, which was handed down last Friday, included charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to information from FOX 5 Atlanta, White was sentenced to life in prison plus five additional years without the option for parole.
The tragic chain of events unfolded after Gaddis and White connected via the Tagged dating app. Following their exchange, they agreed to temporarily meet at the Little Suwanee Pointe neighborhood. Surveillance footage showed Gaddis’ truck arriving to pick up an individual, later confirmed to be White, near the pool area around 11 p.m. Despite the seemingly mundane nature of the meeting, minutes later, Gaddis’ truck was spotted driving towards the neighborhood’s exit at Tech Center Parkway and White was subsequently observed returning to the pool clubhouse alone. Gaddis’ body was later discovered with a gunshot wound to the head inside his truck in Lawrenceville, as reported by Atlanta News First.
“This verdict brings a measure of justice, and we hope it offers solace to the victim’s family and loved ones,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson stated in the aftermath of the trial. The investigation revealed that the casings found at the site of Gaddis’ murder matched shell casings from a July 2021 incident in which White was alleged to have fired at his ex-girlfriend and her mother. The crucial link in the case came when those casings were compared and found to match the one from Gaddis’ vehicle, according to details provided by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Footage from a body camera showed a man matching White’s description being evicted from a townhouse located opposite the pool. This footage was pivotal to definitively connect to establish White as the same person who was with Gaddis the night of the murder. White did not manage to elude capture for long and was apprehended in June 2022. The case saw the collaborative efforts of the Gwinnett County Police Department and the District Attorney’s office, with individuals like Sgt. Jorstad and DA’s Investigator Christina Newman being recognized for their contribution to the resolution of this case, as further detailed by Atlanta News First.
