Suspected Phoenix Home Invader Fatally Shot by Police After High-Speed Chase and Crash

Tragedy unfolded in south Phoenix on Monday night when an armed home invasion suspect was shot and killed by police officers after a brief chase that ended in a vehicular crash. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident began around 10 p.m. near 15th Avenue and Chipman Road. Responding to a 911 call, officers arrived to witness a pickup truck, believed to contain the suspect, departing the scene. Efforts to apprehend the truck led to a short chase, resulting in the vehicle crashing into a wall at 15th and Wier Avenues.

It was reported by AZ Central that the man, after crashing his vehicle, exited with a gun in his hand. Despite commands from officers to stop and drop the weapon, he proceeded to run toward a residential home and, upon reaching the driveway, raised his weapon towards the officers. This action led the officers to fatally shoot him. The suspect, who has not been named but is said to be in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were injured during the encounter.

Local resident Jaurigui Martinez, who lives just a few houses away from where the shooting occurred, caught the incident on video. His footage shows police sirens activated and captures the sound of gunfire following the shouted commands of the officers. Sometime after the incident, a Chevrolet Silverado, the same make of the pickup involved in the chase, was seen being loaded onto a flatbed truck, recounted by Lydia Lucero, another nearby resident, to AZ Central.

The man received medical attention from the officers until Fire Department personnel arrived only to determine he had died. According to police, detectives recovered two handguns from the man and a rifle inside the truck. The incident is believed to be connected to the initial home invasion report made that evening. This case adds to a growing number of police shootings in Phoenix for the year, with AZ Central noting that it is the 15th instance, leading to the 13th fatality in such events.
