Incumbent Ric Bradshaw Reelected for Record Sixth Term as Palm Beach County Sheriff

In a decisive victory, incumbent Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw clinched a record sixth term on Tuesday, fending off his Republican rival Michael Gauger. The Democratic sheriff has a venerable history in law enforcement, spanning almost half a century, marking him as the county’s most enduring figure in the position, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Election results showed a clear preference for Bradshaw, who amassed a considerable lead with 416,564 votes to Gauger’s 301,364, with all 798 precincts accounted for, as per data from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections website and reported by WPTV. While serving as a member of the West Palm Beach Police Department, before being elected as sheriff in 2004, Bradshaw climbed the ranks to become chief of police, laying the foundational work for his extensive and ongoing tenure.

During his campaign, Bradshaw underscored the achievements under his leadership at PBSO, which included successful operations against gangs, pill mills, and human traffickers, as well as efforts to snare cyber predators. In 2022, the 76-year-old sheriff underwent an elective heart procedure, however, it was emphasized by PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera, in a statement obtained by WPTV, that it was not prompted by an emergency situation.

Gauger, who had retired as chief deputy for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, based his campaign on the commitment to community policing. During a September forum, as per the Palm Beach Post. Gauger leveled criticism at the sheriff’s office’s proposed budget for the following year, which was set at $952 million, advocating for a more frugal spending approach had he won the election. Yet, following the will of the voters, Ric Bradshaw is positioned to continue his long-standing service to Palm Beach County.
