Political discourse in Lake Havasu City took a decidedly unlawful turn last week when Ryne Santos, a 30-year-old Las Vegas resident, was caught in the act of tampering with campaign signage. The Lake Havasu City Police Department reported that on October 27, Santos actively participated in the removal and vandalism of various political signs near State Route 95 and Acoma Boulevard West, an action witnessed by a community member who subsequently stepped in.
This confrontation did little to curb Santos’ behavior, as he went on to attempt to instigate a fight upon being informed his actions were in direct violation of the law. According to the Lake Havasu City government’s announcement, Santos was arrested and charged with knowingly removing and defacing political signs, criminal littering, and disorderly conduct. His bail was set at $1000 cash, and he was turned over to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
Encouraging community vigilance, Lake Havasu City Police have asked anyone with further information on the sign thefts and damages to come forward. Concerned citizens are urged to reach out to the Lake Havasu City Police Department at (928) 855-1171, or, to submit tips anonymously, contact Havasu Silent Witness at 928-854-TIPS (8477). Information can also be relayed through electronic correspondence to the department’s official email address.
