Following the recent resignation of at-large Council Member Dustin Zvonek, the city of Aurora has opened applications to fill the now vacant seat on the City Council, with the term extending until the first council meeting in December 2025, the city of Aurora’s official website announced.

According to the City of Aurora, hitting the ground running, the application window is short, hopeful residents have until Nov. 13 to throw their hats into the political ring, minimum qualifications include being a registered elector in Aurora, holding U.S. citizenship, being 21 years of age or older by the date of appointment, having spent at least one year as an Aurora local, without current employment by the city and no other elective office holding the gauntlet.

The process to find a suitable candidate to complete Zvonek’s tenure is on a tight schedule, the council will review applications on Nov. 18 and select interviewees for the Dec. 2 round with a public meet and greet set for Dec. 9, additional details on the meet and greet will be updated on the City of Aurora.

The final appointment is slated for announcement during the Dec. 16 council meeting, charting the course for the city’s political landscape, and up next the November 2025 Regular Municipal Election awaits where Aurora’s registered voters will decide which candidate will serve a full term, seizing the baton from the interim appointee.
