Collierville and Millington have elected new mayors. In Collierville, Alderwoman Maureen Fraser won with 57% of the vote, defeating Billy Patton. Fraser, who has served as an alderwoman since 2003, was endorsed by outgoing Mayor Stan Joyner. In a statement to WREG, Fraser expressed gratitude, saying, “I am honored, humbled, and ready to get to work for all the citizens of Collierville. To Mayor Joyner, my campaign team, all my volunteers, supporters, friends, family, and voters, thank you so very much! There are so many amazing opportunities on the horizon for Collierville, let’s all do it together.”
Collierville resident John Duncan expressed his approval in an interview acquired by WREG: “I feel like she was the best candidate to continue the progress we have already started.”
Millington also elected a new mayor, with longtime alderman Larry Dagen winning over 62% of the vote, defeating Cary Vaughn. His victory, along with the reelection of incumbents in the alderman races, was reported by the Daily Memphian.
Dagen’s commitment to Millington’s growth was echoed in the perspective of Millington resident Kristy Moody, who told a reporter at WREG, “Sometimes when you have like a new face. It means new ideas and that’s positive for the community.” Dagen, who is set to continue the recent surge in development, including about 500 new homes and 1,000 additional acres of property for potential development, has outlined his intentions to utilize these opportunities.
According to the Commercial Appeal, Dagen has promised to focus on priorities similar to those he pursued as an alderman, foreseeing a strategy to capitalize on the city’s burgeoning growth.
