The City of Litchfield Park is setting the stage to construct a new library with the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors giving the green light on funds totaling $5 million. This financial injection, sourced from Community Solutions Funding, is allocated to cover part of the costs required to bring this modernized center of learning and culture to fruition. According to a statement from the
Maricopa County
website, the shovel is expected to hit the ground in the summer of 2025, leading up to a projected opening in January 2027.
In the words of Supervisor Clint Hickman, representing District 4, “Maricopa County libraries have so much to offer from books to entertainment, to school and career development resources.” He further adds that
Maricopa County
“is proud to partner with the City of Litchfield Park to offer local residents a larger and more modern library that they can leverage for personal and professional growth.” The upcoming library promises to not only expand its floor space by 40 percent but also to quickly and effectively reduce book turnaround times.
Not just another building, the new library is an integral piece of an envisioned cultural complex that will cluster the P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center, Hilltop Park, and the proposed Agua Fria Arts Academy. The current library, standing since 1979, will be repurposed for city civic use, augmenting the city’s infrastructure. Thomas Schoaf, the Mayor of Litchfield Park, expressed his anticipation, sharing with the
Maricopa County
website, “The existing library has been such an important community gathering place for Litchfield Park residents…we hope to build a new facility that will deepen the community’s engagement and enhance the library experience for Litchfield Park families for years to come.”
The arrange of funding was made possible by Supervisor Hickman, who designated the $5 million of Community Solutions Funding specifically for this project. The new library design, in collaboration between the City and the Maricopa County Library District, will aim to respond to the evolving needs of the community. “After many years of partnering with the City of Litchfield Park to provide exceptional library services, we are thrilled to play a part in this exciting new chapter,” informed Jeremy Reeder, Director of the
Maricopa County
Library District.
Further details on the library’s design and services will unfold as the project moves ahead, with the City and the Maricopa County Library District closely working to ensure the new facility meets the modern needs of Litchfield Park’s residents.
