As we enter the season of winter festivities, the Cuyahoga County Department of Health and Human Services is inviting community members to contribute to its annual Holiday Giving Program. This effort aims to bring joy to children, families, and older adults throughout the county who might need an extra dose of holiday spirit.
“The holidays are a wonderful time of year, and we’re excited to help create memorable moments for our children, families, and older adults,” said HHS Director David Merriman in a statement obtained by
Cuyahoga County
Communications. The department is reaching out to residents, businesses, and organizations to join the cause in making this season memorable for those in need, with a deadline set for December 6.
Generosity during the holidays can take one of three forms under the program. Firstly, the Hope for the Holidays initiative seeks gifts for foster care children and teens. Supporters can purchase new gifts from specified Amazon or Target wish lists or choose their gifts for donation. The department said arrangements for drop-offs can be made through
[email protected]
or by calling 216-881-4150. Monetary contributions, such as checks payable to DCFS Hope for the Holidays, are also welcome.
The Adopt-A-Family program allows participants to “adopt” a kinship family for the holiday season. Once individuals or groups are matched with a family, they are expected to purchase, wrap, and label gifts, committing a minimum of $75 per child and $75 toward a family gift. Lastly, the Elves for Elders initiative caters to the older population of
Cuyahoga County
by providing specific gift items they may need through email communication with
[email protected]
. Gifts are not to be wrapped but instead placed in gift bags and can be dropped off at designated times and locations.
Potential donors are encouraged to visit the
Cuyahoga County
official Holiday Giving Program webpage for more detailed information on how to contribute to these particular programs or to understand the types of gifts sought. With the collective effort of the Cuyahoga community, this initiative is set to bring smiles and a sense of warmth to those who might otherwise go without during this season of giving.
