The festive spirit has made its official descent into Old Sacramento with the annual tradition of delivering the holiday tree. As reported by
CBS13
, the 60-foot white fir, tipping the scales at around 12,000 pounds, was transported down from Siskiyou County and made its grand entrance into the city.
The Downtown Sacramento Partnership provided additional context, noting that the tree is approximately 35-40 years old and was specifically chosen from a location above the snow line—a strategic move to guarantee its freshness throughout the festivities. However, the sheer logistics of installing such a towering fir amidst the quaint surroundings of Front and Second streets are a spectacle in themselves. As the crew settles the tree in its new urban home, preparations for the upcoming lighting ceremony are swiftly unfolding.
Following its installation, a touch of holiday magic will be added by a team from Sacramento’s Stage Nine Exhibits. They will meticulously decorate the tree with nearly 24,000 lights, along with 550 icicles and 400 strobes, among other special lighting effects. This dazzling array of lights is designed to create an atmospheric centerpiece for the Old Sacramento waterfront area, transforming it into a beacon of yuletide celebration.
Scott Ford, deputy director of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, captured the essence of this local initiative in a statement obtained by
KCRA
. “It really is an expression of the passion that our locally-owned businesses have for the community,” Ford said. “They put together hundreds of thousands of lights, garland, the tree. It is really just setting the stage for what we hope is gonna be a place for the Sacramento region to gather and make new memories this holiday season.”
The spotlight moment, or rather the twinkling culmination of all this hard work, will reveal itself at the official lighting ceremony, set to take place on November 27 at 6 p.m. Visitors and locals alike are invited to congregate and witness the magnificent fir come alive with an eruption of holiday cheer as Old Sacramento sets the tone for a season filled with joy and community spirit.
